A Choice Location for Nearly 300 Years
"All day today there has been around me a fragrance of the country. Green fields and hills and valleys, running streams and pleasant walks, and all the beauties and delights of Buckingham farm have been the prevailing ideas in my mind."
- A descendant, in a letter from 1855, describes the Buckingham property.
Buckingham's Choice is a relaxed and comfortable place to put down roots. Surrounded by farmland and set just outside the charming Victorian village of Buckeystown, Maryland, the community offers sweeping, peaceful views. In fact, the countryside itself invites exploration, whether it's weekend antiquing, hikes along the C&O Canal, or visits to nearby Civil War battlefields. Yet, Buckingham's Choice is only seven miles from downtown Frederick, Maryland's second largest city, and less than an hour from the cultural riches, restaurants, and sports stadiums of Baltimore and Washington, DC.
Nestled in the gently rolling foothills of rural Frederick County, Maryland, framed by Sugarloaf and the Catoctin Mountains, this property has long served as a pastoral retreat for prominent Maryland families. First referenced as "Buckingham House" in a 1730 land grant to Colonel Edward Sprigg, the property was purchased by Baltimore merchant, John Hasselbach, in 1811, and remained in his family until 1871.
